Light a Candle
Edgar Duane Smith, 74, passed away on March 5th, 2017 in Evergreen Colorado. He was born on June 14th, 1952 in Elko, Nevada to Edgar and Orvabelle (Mickie) Smith. Ed grew up in Elko, Nevada and graduated from Elko High School where he earned three varsity letters in track and two in football. He then spent a year at the University of Nevada before transferring to West Pointe Military Academy. He received his degree from the Academy in engineering as well as a commissioning as an officer in the United States Army. Ed met Elizabeth (Liz) Lystrup of Eau Claire, Wisconson in Copenhagen Denmark in 1959 and were later married in 1961. Ed retired from the Army in 1965 and began an engineering career that allowed him to travel around the world five times and visit over 40 countries. Ed was proceeded in death by his wife Liz Smith and parents Edgar and Mickie Smith. Ed is survived by his children; Lisa Arnold of Evergreen, Colorado, Christian Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Karen Hutcherson of Evergreen Colorado and Stephen Smith of Apopka Florida. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; Grace Arnold, Alex and Sydney Smith, Jake and Hayden Hutcherson and Haley, Greyson, Alexandria and West Smith According to Edgar’s wishes, his body will be cremated and his ashes interned at his beloved West Point Military Academy.
